The Classical Theatre Project is an organization that performs Shakespeare plays for students; in fact, they are the only organization that is dedicated to students. Ten years ago, back when the organization was young, The Classical Theatre Project's goal was to demonstrate how Shakespeare is cool!
In 2001 The Classical Theatre Project performed their first play, but they did not gain immediate popularity. Finally, after three years, they had a performance with 4000 students in attendance. The C.T.P.'s popularity has been steadfast ever since. They now continue to educate and entertain at The Toronto Centre for the Arts, located at 5040 Yonge street.
Presently,(2012 - 2013) they are going on tour across North America, performing in 31 cities. This year they will present the audience with plays such as Romeo and Juliet, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Macbeth and Twelfth Night, but by far, the most popular performance is, “The Complete work of William Shakespeare Abridged". It lasts 75 minutes and contains all of Shakespeare’s plays, and will leave you breathless with laughter. What makes it even more amazing, is the fact that it is performed by only three actors throughout!
The founders of The C.T.P., David Galpern and Charles Roy started this organization to stimulate, educate, and inspire. They have definitely accomplished this goal, and they will continue to strive to please audiences.
