Theatre Scarborough was formally known as Playhouse 66 when they operated out of a theatre at 66 Denton Avenue. In 1982 they moved out and re-located to Scarborough Village. There were three small theatre groups that combined: Scarborough Theatre Guild, Scarborough Players, and Scarborough Music Players. This combination was “The birth of Playhouse 66.”
The Scarborough Theatre Guild was created in 1959. They operated out of an old farmhouse at Midland and Ellesmere. Scarborough Players was founded by John Caldwell, and they originally performed at the club Top Hat. Finally, the evolution of Scarborough Music Theatre occurred in the 1960’s out of the Church of Master Senior Choir’s concerts. They have performed many types of shows, from the Sound of Music to The Full Monty.
To date, these three theatre groups work out of The Scarborough Village Theatre, providing great and affordable entertainment to the people of Scarborough and many other visitors.
